Personal care is an umbrella term commonly used to define the range of services put in place to support an individual with their personal care and hygiene. Health and social care workers are expected to be trained to provide personal care in a way that is discreet and respectful of the person’s individual preferences; whilst also understanding the importance of supporting the person’s dignity and independence. This module includes the physical assistance given to a person in connection with eating and drinking; toileting; bathing and showering; dressing and undressing; oral care and care of the skin; hair and nails.
