About the CPD course
A course for healthcare assistants who are new to working in general practice. The course consists of 5 study days covering role of the HCA in general practice; relevant clinical skills (BP; pulse; ECG; peak flow; capillary blood sampling; urinalysis) as well as an overview of long term conditions (hypertension; coronary heart disease; respiratory disease and diabetes). This is followed by a period of supervised practice with a nurse mentor until competency in the clinical skills is achieved. Students are required to complete written work and a competency assessment package that demonstrates that they have met the learning outcomes.
EQUIP aims to improve the quality of care in chronic diseases in general practice through education, anticipatory care and audit by developing and utilising all the skills within the practice team. CCGs or practices can commission specific training ranging from accredited Health Care Assistant and Receptionist courses to specific clinical courses such as minor operations and anticoagulation courses through to employment law.
In relation to audit and the new contract, our audit co-ordinator and Audit & IT Lead are able to work with practices and advise on areas such as Read Code, QoF, CQRS, Admission Avoidance etc... EQUIP can provide training for all members of the primary health care team
