The course considers the aims of effective safeguarding standards and requirements within a charity; and the responsibility of governors and trustees to ensure standards are met within their organisations. Good Governance in charities is fundamental to their success. Charity trustees and senior management have a responsibility to review what risks their organisation faces; including safeguarding risks. In order to recognise risks connected to safeguarding vulnerable people an excellent understanding of safeguarding requirements; guidance and legislation is required.All board members should have Level 1 core competencies in safeguarding and must know the common presenting features of abuse; harm and neglect; and the context in which it presents to health care staff. In addition; board members should have an understanding of the statutory role of the board in safeguarding inc. partnership arrangements; policies; risks & performance indicators; staff’s roles & responsibilities in safeguarding; and the expectations of regulatory bodies in safeguarding.
