Students will learn how to think about affect and its regulation; about self-states as regulated-integrated vs dysregulated-dissociated; about the neurobiology of secure and insecure attachment; about relational trauma and its sequelae as character disorders and chronic suffering from dissociated shame; and about interactive regulation and vitalizing attunement as essential processes in the treatment of personality disorders and other disorders of affect regulation.
