This course on Islamic Microfinance (Commercial) offers an in-depth exploration of how microfinance aligns with the objectives (Maqasid) of Shariah; contrasting these with global human development and poverty alleviation goals; including the UN's SDGs. It evaluates the ethical and practical shortcomings of conventional microfinance models and assesses how Islamic principles provide alternative solutions to combat poverty. The course reviews foundational principles of Islamic microfinance; examining their effectiveness in addressing global poverty challenges. Participants will learn about various for-profit Islamic microfinance models and modes; such as murabaha; bai-bithaman-ajil; mudarabah; and musharakah; supported by case studies from diverse regions and regulatory frameworks.
