This module focuses on the significance of timely insulin initiation to achieve optimal glycemic control and the importance of insulin in managing patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). Insulin initiation can arrest the progressive decline of beta cell function leading to a substantial reduction in HbA1c and longer complication-free survival for patients with T2D. An array of insulin types such as basal; premix and post prandial insulins; along with their initiation and intensification strategies have been discussed in the module. Furthermore; barriers to adherence of insulin therapy and methods to overcome these barriers to avoid treatment burden have also been highlighted.
