Petals - The Baby Loss Counselling Charity
About the CPD course
Recognising that there is little or no specialist baby loss training for counsellors; Petals; has designed a bespoke two-stage training programme for specialist health professionals interested in working with parents following the death of a baby. Providing psychological support to parents following the death of a baby or child can be an emotionally charged and challenging aspect of your work; This training programme will enable you to create a safe space for parents to express their feelings of fear; anxiety; guilt; shame and anger; helping them to live alongside their grief and feel more able to cope in the world.
Petals was founded in 2011 by Karen Burgess, our Chief Executive. Originally working as a counsellor within the NHS in Cambridge, Karen witnessed first-hand how critical her specialist counselling work was for bereaved parents. So when the funding for her role was cut, she was determined to keep it going. And so Petals – which originally stood for Pregnancy Expectations Trauma and Loss Society – was born. Since achieving charity status in 2013, the service has grown to the size it is today, with aspirations to expand nationwide.
