About the CPD course

For anyone who is a Designated Safeguarding Lead; Manager or at Operational Level; or anyone who wishes to progress to DSL. This course covers all necessary areas of learning relevant to the role; including Safe Recruitment; Policies and Procedures; Serious Case Reviews and Child Death Procedures. Contemporary safeguarding issues are covered; such as Online Safety; Radicalisation; and Female Genital Mutilation. The Course ends with a Court Room cross examination; showing staff how things can go wrong if recoding information isn’t carried out properly.

Safeguarding Today Limited is a training company with a fresh approach. Our Director and Trainer Jennie Smith has been a criminal Barrister since 2003. Following 10 years at the Crown Prosecution Service she draws on her vast knowledge and experience to assist companies in improving their safeguarding standards. As a rape & sexual offences and child abuse specialist, she can draw on real life practice of file reviews and court skills to offer a unique training experience. Her knowledge goes beyond sexual offences and child abuse cases. This includes domestic violence, sexual offences committed by children, harassment and stalking, hate crime in all its forms, and diverse cultural practices harmful to vulnerable groups. Our Director and Trainer Kath has been a Police Officer with Greater Manchester Police, one of the UK’s largest and busiest police forces for 30 years. During a varied career she has gained a wealth of experience in safeguarding children and vulnerable persons. In 2003 Kath was trained in advanced witness and suspect interviewing. In 2005 Kath trained as a detective constable and after a time in the Criminal Investigation Unit she became a dedicated Child Protection Officer. In 2009 Kath was trained as an interview advisor, In this role she provided strategic and tactical advice to senior officers in the investigation of complex crime.
