About the CPD course
The Motherhood Group interactive training course will equip healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to understand the Black maternal experience; barriers to quality maternal care and explore cultural differences. During the course; delegates will explore awareness and beliefs about mental health; addressing cultural perspectives on mental illness and strategies for engaging with the Black community in mental health contexts. Understand how emotional distress is expressed and depression identified while tackling issues of mistrust and fear surrounding healthcare services. Address communication challenges and provide strategies for promoting an open dialogue while addressing shame; stigma; faith influences; and language barriers in diverse communities.
The Motherhood Group is a Black-led social enterprise committed to improving the Black maternal experience in the UK. Our programs provide support to Black women during pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood. We influence policies, practices, and provide training for NHS professionals to improve healthcare for Black women. Our training topics include, culturally competent care, inequalities in maternal health, systemic racism, discrimination and African and Caribbean cultural practices.
Every mother, including black mums deserve the right to have access to adequate support, respectable care, safe spaces and for their voice to be heard.
