Venepuncture (Phlebotomy) in Primary Care

This aims to equip participants with the knowledge; skills; and confidence necessary to safely and effectively perform venepuncture procedures; while prioritising patient comfort and safety. Participants will learn to prepare and support patients; identify appropriate veins; apply infection prevention techniques; select appropriate equipment and sample bottles; recognise health and safety issues; obtain informed consent; identify and manage common problems; and explain accountability measures during venepuncture. The course will also provide opportunities for practical simulation to practice and refine the skills necessary for venepuncture.
