Introduction to Supporting Estranged Students

About the event

This online training session supports attendees to understand what the term estranged means and how to identify estranged students in post-16 education or youth settings. It introduces attendees to the barriers which estranged students can face in education and when progressing to university. The latter part of the session introduces attendees to the support that is available through Student Finance England; UCAS; Stand Alone and provides attendees with details of further research they could do to support estranged students in their area. During the session; attendees will be signposted further organisations and resources to support their work with estranged students.

The Southern Universities Network (SUN) is a collaborative partnership, providing higher education outreach activities for schools and colleges across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. It is part of Uni Connect, an Office for Students-funded national programme, offering activities, advice, and information on the benefits and realities of going to university. The SUN offers workshops, events and activities to support and inspire young people to consider their future educational pathways and options. The SUN also offers an accredited programme of CPD to upskill education professionals and to enhance their knowledge and confidence in providing support to young people.
