This important national conference provides an essential update for current and aspiring nurse/non medical prescribers on prescribing for wound care. Wound care is a growing area of non medical prescribing and one of the most common areas, in a 2010 survey of the Association for Nurse Prescribing members found that it was the third most common prescribing area after pain and minor ailments (Karen Stenner, University of Surrey). This makes it essential that nurse prescribers maintain the competence and skills to prescribe for wound management in an effective way, working with patients to improve wound management outcomes.Through national updates and practical case studies from community, district nursing, tissue viability in hospital, pressure ulcer management and heel ulcer management delegates will hear how to develop and maintain prescribing competence, and how to develop effectiveness in post qualification practice. Extended sessions developing prescribing competence and confidence, and assessing and evaluating prescribing decisions to demonstrated effectiveness. The use of Patient Group Directions in Wound Care and how these can supplement wound care management will also be discussed.
