We have been asking our members from across the industries the reasons why they became a CPD provider. This CPD Member case study was provided by Creative Semiotics. For more information, please visit their CPD Member Directory page.
Please provide us with a brief overview of your organisation. What do you do?
Creative Semiotics is a UK-based boutique consultancy founded in 2010 by strategist Chris Arning. Our mission is to make visible the meanings embedded in brand communication to help business owners better manage the meaning of their brands. Our core methodology to deliver this is applied semiotics. Besides being a respected commercial semiotician, Chris is also an educator and an advocate for sharing semiotic knowledge in the field of brand strategy. Semiotics is his passion, and his objective is to make it accessible for insight professionals and creatives, to enable them to translate smart semiotic findings to advertising and packaging briefs and express the insights in creative solutions.
Why did you become a CPD provider?
We ran a successful pilot of our course at the end of 2019, and 9 courses between 2020 and 2023. To date, we have nearly 180 Alumni from 30 countries in the network. Their feedback and testimonials have always been overwhelmingly positive. In short, we knew we had a tried and tested concept. At that stage we decided to seek an independent assessment of the course structure and format, to make sure it complied with best practice standards in online learning; that’s why we approached CPD.
How did you implement CPD accreditation in your organisation?
The certification process was very rigorous. All our course materials were thoroughly scrutinized, and the curriculum reviewed. There was a lot of work for us to do to comply with the CPD requirements; for example, catering for different learning styles and those for whom English is not their first language. But we had a lot of support from the CPD team throughout and it was a great learning experience for us to work with experts in the field of online learning and Continuing Professional Development. It was a big milestone for us to have finally achieved the certification – that was in September 2022.
How has CPD helped your organisation achieve its learning objectives?
The CPD Certification means an increased credibility; it is an objective equivalent to the numerous more subjective and personal testimonials we have garnered to date from our graduates. For employers committed to professional growth of their staff, we know CPD’s seal guarantees lasting learning value. Beyond the certification itself, we were left with a list of useful suggestions for future considerations – for instance creating automatic transcripts of each module to share with students. These have made our courses even better. After all, we believe in ‘Kaizen’ – the Japanese concept of continuous improvement - and as we take on board feed-back from the course graduates after each cohort, we work with the learnings from the certification process as we develop and further improve our courses.
