About the CPD course
Social security is a complex and ever-changing area of law. This course will navigate learners through what happens to a claimant’s benefits when remanded in custody or sentenced to a period of imprisonment. We will explore continuing rights to entitlement to benefit while in prison and claiming benefits upon release. Learners will also find out what financial support is available to prisoners and their families from statutory provision as well as from informal trusts and charities.
NIACRO is Northern Ireland’s leading voluntary organisation working with the criminal justice system for 50 years to reduce crime and its impact on people and communities. We support over 5,500 people annually, including adults with convictions in prison and in the community, children and young people at risk of offending and families affected by imprisonment. We have considerable expertise in advice-giving concerning criminal records and disclosure, early intervention, rehabilitation and restorative practices. We support others working in the sector with training, advice and guidance. Our work has been recognised through the Howard League for Penal Reform, Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland, IIP, IIC and IIV.
