About the CPD course
This course is aimed at Health Visitors to ensure they feel confident to meet the additional support needs of babies and children ages 0-5; with Down’s syndrome. The session will enable health professionals to learn what Down’s syndrome is and some of the associated features and health issues that impact learning; development to meet a baby/ child’s needs. They will hear good practice examples and improve their understanding around caring for babies born with Down’s syndrome and supporting families through the neonatal period and early years. They will get to hear lived experiences from a parent carer.
Down’s Syndrome Scotland, a member-led charity established in 1982 are the only charity in Scotland dedicated to providing ‘all through life’ support and a range of services to people with Down’s syndrome and their families and carers nationally across Scotland. We provide training for educational settings to positively include and effectively support the education of children and young people with Down’s syndrome. We provide teaching sessions to midwifery and health professionals with supporting new and expectant parents through prenatal screening and testing, receiving the news and the early years of having a child with Down’s syndrome.
