We have been asking our members from across the industries the reasons why they became a CPD provider. This CPD Member case study was provided by Alison. For more information please visit their CPD Member Directory page.
Please provide us with a brief overview of your organisation. What do you do?
Alison is an online learning and career empowerment platform. We provide free courses and professional tools ranging from career guidance to psychometrics testing. Our offering also includes tailored learning and development programmes and a free in-house LMS for businesses.
Why did you become a CPD provider?
We understand the value of providing top-quality courses to our learners. We also understand the value of partnering with recognised certification services. Being a CPD provider allows our learners to continue their professional development and to keep their skills and knowledge up to date.
We publish over 100 courses per month. Our standards are high and getting higher as we grow as an organisation and traditional certification is simply not practical in terms of the speed of turnaround or the cost it demands. It is simply not good value for money.
We don't need any external institution to tell us our courses are good. We do however want to share with our learners that the approach we use is reviewed regularly by a 3rd party - and our CPD partner plays that role well for us. Our courses are also very workplace focused and hence CPD being very appropriate.
How did you implement CPD accreditation in your organisation?
The CPD Certification Service gave us guidelines to adhere to and we revised our complete publishing process to reflect the new level of performance demanded. We face regular checks on our publishing operations - which are welcome . All our many hundreds of publishers around the world are aware of the demands placed by CPD certification. They learn it as part of their basic training when learning how to use our free publishing tools as they become Qualified Alison Publishers - at levels 1,2, and 3.
How has CPD helped your organisation achieve its learning objectives?
It adds discipline to our publishing processes forcing our publishers and authors to think about the end goal of making sure our learners have positive and quality outcomes after their study. CPD is globally recognised and as a very global organization - with nearly 25 million users - and a global staff of 200 across 35+ countries - standards of quality which transcend borders are important to us.

- The Importance of Networking - The world is slowly opening back up and after almost 18 months of social distancing and isolating, it's starting to feel like society is getting back to normal (read more).
- The Benefits of Being a Mentor - When we think of personal development, we tend to think in terms of self-improvement through learning and upskilling. We feel that in order to develop, we must gain expertise or add knowledge to our existing skillset through education and training. However, there is another road to personal development, not through learning but teaching (read more).
- Retraining is no longer optional - One in two employees will need to retrain in order to be able to effectively carry out their job. This means that upskilling is now essential for both individuals and businesses to thrive, and not just something that employees do to increase their earning potential or to upgrade their CV (read more).
